Recent research interests and achievements.
As of 2020.03.24, Ngai-Ching Wong, has published totally 182 research
papers in mathematics. Among them,
162 was published in math research journals indexed in the list of WOS from ISI
SCIE. There are 1813 citation records to his papers indexed by WOS, with an
h-index 20. Wong has made important contributions to the Banach-Stone problem
for function spaces and operator algebras.
His results are recorded in the famous collections of Fleming and
Jamison, “Isometries on Banach spaces: function spaces, I & II (Chapman
& Hall/CRC), and also in Chapters 9 and 10 of the new version of the
classic of Narici and Beckenstein, “Topological Vector Spaces”, 2nd
ed. (2012).
Below
list some major contributions of Wong in recent years.
A.
Together with Chi-Wai Leung, Anthony To-Ming Lau and Chi-Keung Ng, Wong
has studied the noncommutative spaces. In particular, the geometry of the
positive contractive part and the positive sphere of the unit ball of an
space are showed
to determine completely the Jordan structure of the underlying
-algebra
. Their results
apply to the study of the Fourier algebra
of a locally
compact group or quantum group
, and verify that the metric semigroup of the positive norm
one functions in
determines
upto
opposition. Their contribution
appears in a series of recent papers, including
1.

B.
Together with Chi-Keung Ng, Wong have
finished two new and complete classification schemes of C*-algebras, in
parallel with the seminal works of F. J. Murray and J. Von Neumann for
W*-algebras. Instead of using
projections in the algebras, they used positive elements (following Cuntz and
Pedersen) and open projections (following Peligrad and Zsido) for the
classification tools. Their results appeared in
5.
“A
Murray-von Neumann type classification of C*-algebras”, in “Operator semigroups

7.

open projections”, J. Operator Theory
74, Issue 1, (2015), 101-123.
C.
Ngai-Ching Wong has obtained a rather deep
and complete description of linear maps between operator algebras, which preserve
norms, disjointness or orthogonality.
Together with Chung-Wen Tsai and Chi-Wai Leung, Wong provided a complete
description of disjointness/orthogonality preserving linear maps between
W*-algebras in
8.
“Linear disjointness preservers of
W*-algebras”, Math. Z., 270 (2012),
no. 3-4, 699–708.
These maps are exactly the algebra
isomorphisms followed by a multiplier, i.e., .
Together
with Anthony T.-M. Lau, Wong obtained a similar result for those
disjointness/orthogonality preserving linear maps between preduals of
W*-algebras, . More
precisely, such a map is a Jordan homomorphism
following a multiplication
.
Consequently, they applied the result to Fourier algebras
, which are preduals of the reduced group W*-algebra
They showed that every
disjointness/ orthogonality preserving linear map
between the Fourier or the
Fourier-Stieltjes of two locally compact groups carries the form
,
where
is a
topological group isomorphism and
is a
multiplier. See, for details,
9.
“Orthogonality and disjointness
preserving linear maps between Fourier and Fourier-Stieltjes algebras of
locally compact groups”, J. Funct. Anal.,
265(4) (2013), 562–593.
D.
In answering one of the four open problems
raised by Micheal Frank about Hilbert C*-modules, Chi-Wai Leung, Chi-Keung Ng
and Ngai-Ching Wong published a series of papers:
10.
“Linear orthogonality preservers of
Hilbert bundles”, J. Australian Math.
Soc., 89 (2010), no. 2, 245–254.
11.
“Linear orthogonality preservers of
Hilbert C*-modules over C*-algebras with real rank zero”, Proc. Amer. Math. Soc., 140 (2012), no. 9, 3151–3160.
12.
“Linear orthogonality preservers of
Hilbert C*-modules”, J. Operator Theory,
71:2(2014), 571–584.
They showed that every orthogonality
preserving module map between Hilbert A-modules preserving the A-valued inner products
is a unitary operator following a
multiplier. More precisely,
Where is a
central multiplier of the C*-algebra
.
On the other hand, Ming-Hsiu Hsu and Ngai-Ching
Wong also published a complete characterization of isometries between real
C*-algebras in
13.
“Isometries
of real Hilbert C*-modules”, J. Math.
Anal. Appl., 438(2), 2016, 807–827
E.
Together with Jen-Chi Yao, B. T. Kien and D. R. Sahu,
Ngai-Ching Wong have achieved quite a few good results in fixed point theory
and algorithms, with applications to control and optimization theory. Samples of their results can be found in

conditions for multiobjective optimal control problems with free end-time”, SIAM J. Control and Optimization, 47
(2008), no. 5, 2251--2274.
